Capitol to put up paid parking lot at IT park
Friday, Feb 13, 2009
The Cebu provincial government has found another money-making venture in Cebu City.
The provincial Economic Enterprise Council (EEC) is planning to put up a pay parking area in a vacant lot fronting the Asiatown Information Technology (IT) Park along Salinas Drive, Cebu City.
The pay parking fee would ranger from P10 to P40 for the first two hours and P5 to P20 for succeeding hours, depending on the kind of vehicle.
"Parking there at the IT park is lacking, that's why we want to put up a parking area," said Cebu Provincial Board Member Juan Bolo, a member of the EEC.
Bolo said proceeds from the pay parking area would go directly to the provincial coffers.
The lot that the Capitol is eyeing is along the Salinas Drive, across a display center for Yamaha motorcycles.
While the IT park is jointly developed by the Capitol and Cebu Holdings Inc. – an affiliate of Ayala Land Inc. – the lot remains a property of the provincial government.
Cebu Property Ventures and Development Corp. (CPVDC), the company that manages the IT Park, earlier asked permission to landscape the lot.
That plan did not materialize, Bolo said.
EEC passed a resolution last January 30 fixing the pay parking rates that would be charged to users of the parking lot.
Parking fee of P10 is to be collected from motorcycle users for the first two hours of parking while P5 is charged for the succeeding hours.
Cars are to be charged P20 for the first two hours and P10 for the succeeding hours, while buses are to pay P40 for the first two hours and P20 for the succeeding hours.
The provincial board passed a resolution during their Feb 9 session adopting the EEC resolution prescribing the parking rates for the use of the IT Park parking area.
"The (provincial) board finds it (collection of pay parking fee) reasonable, thus (we are) adopting the resolution by the EEC prescribing the rates of parking fee," said the resolution.
Bolo said pay parking collection start as soon as a pay parking booth is established.
